I have a passion for technology, innovation and collaboration and a keen interest in promoting and increasing youth participation in startups and technology.
I am the Community Manager for Opmantek, a leading provider of Open Source Network Management and IT Audit software and have been an active contributor to the Gold Coast startup community for several years.
In 2014 I teamed up with Sam Winter to create and deliver a new and innovative entrepreneurship program for High School Students, Startup Apprentice. Startup Apprentice is an eight-week, action based program that teaches the lean approach to starting a digital business.
The program guides students through the process of bringing an idea to market including: how to pitch, form a work team, business modeling, product development, money management, IP and Copyright Law, marketing and presentation skills. 110 students have participated and 24 business ideas have been developed since the initial pilot program in 2014.
Our contribution to the community was recognised at the 2014 Westpac Community Leaders Awards, where I was one of three finalists in the Start-up Leader category. In December, Sam and I were also named by the Queensland Government as ‘Innovation Champions’ under the Innovation and Science Champions program.
